Advise for new models...
First get some simple pictures of yourself and get them
digitized. At the minimum get a head shot and a full body shot. The
body shot should be in clothing that accentuates your figure. Get
some accurate measurements of yourself. (don't lie). The typical stuff we
will want to know is height, weight, shoe size, dress size and the standard
Bust-waist-hip sizes. Be sure to include the accurate cup size with the
bust measurement.
Next evaluate yourself, as to what your goals are in modeling.
Modeling takes determination and hard work, most of the hard work is not at the
shoot though, it is in promoting yourself and making sure you are at your best
on the shoot. Remember this is a cooperative event, you are trying to make
money modeling and the photographer is trying to make money by shooting you.
Go see an agent/representative. Don't sign anything on
the first visit but get an honest appraisal of yourself. If you have
friends that are models take advantage of their advise.
DON'T DO ADULT (hard core) WORK without serious consideration. This is the
biggest thing that can hold you back in modeling. The money is good in the
beginning but you will be limited and remember that with the internet
nothing ever goes away. Please don't do it without serious consideration!!!
Nudity is more accepted in modeling, but remember it is your decision.
Some general rules:
When attending a shoot, or meeting with someone for the first time, always
use a chaperone.
Pick your chaperone carefully, don't bring somebody that has wandering eyes
or wandering fingers. The chaperone is representing you and should be as
professional as you are. Other models may be present on your shoots and will
expect to be treated in a professional manor.
Never put your full address or phone number on any post in a modeling forum
or other public area.
Be very careful regarding posts and e-mail from anyone with a generic or
free (hotmail, yahoo, etc.) e-mail address.
Obtain as much information you can about those you are considering working
with.
Ask for references and examples of prior work.
Prior to arranging a shoot, discuss and clearly agree on the subject matter
of the shoot.
Ensure that the terms of the shoot are established in advanced (TFP, pay
rate, expenses, etc).
Be certain to get a verifiable home and/or studio phone number, and street
address, for anyone you work with.
Leave that address with somebody you know, or keep a date book at your
residence with the information
